GREENSBORO, N.C. - North Carolina's Joe Kinderwater and Kelsey Morrissy have been selected Atlantic Coast Conference Swimming and Diving Performers of the Week to close out the 2008 regular season. Both student-athletes are the only recipients to have received the league recognition three times this season.

Kinderwater collected a pair of first-place finishes along with two top-five showings on the week to help the 14th-ranked Tar Heels win three dual meets last week, including a 167-131 victory over ACC rival NC State. The freshman distance freestyler took first place in the 1650-yard freestyle with an NCAA "A" automatic qualifying mark of 15:05.42 against NC State last Friday. His time also moved him into eighth place in the event this season in NCAA rankings and makes him the fastest in the ACC this season by 6.48 seconds. Against Johns Hopkins and Emory, the native from Lancaster, Pa., finished first in the 500-yard freestyle (4:29.98) and third in the 200-yard freestyle (1:44.28).

A senior from Horsham, Pa., Morrissy captured first place in four individual events and swam on three first-place and one second-place relay squads as the 12th-ranked Tar Heels defeated NC State (172-116), Emory (165-82) and Johns Hopkins (177-105) last week. The freestyler swam on both winning relays teams (200-yard freestyle relay and 400-yard medley relay) versus the Wolfpack on Friday, while taking top honors in the 100 and 200 freestyles. In her Senior Day meet against Emory and Johns Hopkins on Saturday, Morrissy won the 50 and 100 freestyles and anchored the victorious 200-yard medley relay unit (1:45.17).

Up next for UNC will be the 2008 ACC Swimming and Diving Championships with women's swimming and diving competing along with men's diving on February 20-23. The four-day event will be held at the Aquatic Center on the campus of Georgia Tech in Atlanta, Ga.

The league championship for men's swimming will take place February 27-March 1, also at Georgia Tech.
