![]() Track & Field ACCtion: Weekend of February 15-16 Feb. 17, 2008 Greeley's Effort Leads Clemson Men at Tyson Invitational FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. - Mitch Greeley was fourth in the championships pole vault and cleared 18'0" for the second straight meet to lead the Clemson men's track & field team at the Tyson Invitational on Saturday. Greeley cleared 18'0.5", one week after posting an automatic NCAA Championships qualifying mark of 18'1" at the Virginia Tech Elite Meet. Greeley was fourth overall, third among collegians Saturday. Corey Brown posted a time of 21.66 in the 200m prelims, good enough for 21st in a field of 74 sprinters. Jasen Turnbull was solid in the 800m, turning in a time of 1:56.10 which was also 21st-best overall out of four sections. Brown ran anchor leg for the Tigers' 4x400m relay team, which finished eighth in the collegiate section Saturday. Cowin Mills, Andrew Porter, and Travis Swaggard ran the first three legs on the team that put together a time of 3:14.40, just shy of its best mark this season.
Duke's Schwitzer Lands Spot At World Championships SAN DIEGO, Calif. - Freshman Emily Schwitzer placed fifth at the USATF Junior Cross Country Championships on Saturday morning in San Diego, Calif., earning her a bid to the IAAF World Cross Country Championships next month. Meanwhile, the Duke Indoor Track and Field team finished up its weekend at the Tyson Invitational on Saturday in Fayetteville, Ark. At the Randal Tyson Track Center on the campus of the University of Arkansas, freshman Devotia Moore and the women's distance medley relay team qualified for the postseason.
CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - The North Carolina track and field team was back in action again on Saturday when the Tar Heels hosted the Carolina Chick-fil-A Invitational in the Eddie Smith Field House. Freshman Patience Coleman improved upon her provisional mark in the high jump as she cleared 5-11.25 for the victory in one of many top Tar Heel performances. In women's track action, Shardae Anderson, Ashley Hill and Vanneisha Ivy all competed in the 60-meter dash and the trio were successful in advancing to the finals where Ivy finished third with a time of 7.71. Anderson and Hill were not far behind as they finished eighth and 11th, respectively. Anderson improved on her eighth place showing in the 60 by dominating the 200 dash with a race of 25.01 for the top spot in the race. Hill was not far behind Anderson's pace as she finished in eighth with a race of 25.71. Alexandra Coppadge finished 25th with a time of 26.54.
ATLANTA - The 27th-ranked Georgia Tech men's track and field team had a successful second day of competition at the three separate meets it competed at Saturday. Tech had athletes competing at the Tyson Invitational in Fayetteville, Ark., the Tiger Invitational in Clemson, S.C. and the Iowa State Classic in Ames, Iowa. Sophomore Alphonso Jordan placed seventh in the men's triple jump with NCAA Championship provisional qualifying mark of 52 feet at the Tyson Invitational. Senior James Lemons II finished 11th with a mark of 50 feet, 11 ½ inches. In the long jump, Nigel Orr finished ninth with a mark of 49 feet, 1 ¾ inches. At the Tiger Invitational, Dave Ford finished third in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 8.10. Tim Guglielmo placed 11th in the 800-meter run with a time of 1:58.19. In the 3000-meter run, Nazar Trilisky placed seventh with a time of 8:53.06. |
