Ninth-Inning Rally Gives FSU Season Sweep Of Stetson

DeLAND, Fla. - Third-ranked Florida State (37-7) completed the season sweep of Stetson (19-28) with a 6-3 come-from-behind victory Wednesday night on Melching Field at Conrad Park. The Seminoles, who were held to just one run through the first eight innings, broke through with five runs in the top of the ninth to win their 11th straight game over the Hatters.

Mike McGee tied the game at three in the ninth with a two run shot over the right field wall for his fourth home run of the season. Tyler Holt scored all the way from second for the go ahead run with two outs as Travis Stortz kicked away a chopper off the bat of Jack Rye. Dennis Guinn capped off a four hit night as he hit a two-run double to left to give the Seminoles a three-run advantage.

"That was a big win for us," said head coach Mike Martin. "They basically dominated us for eight innings and to come back like we did and score five runs is a big, big win for us."

Wake Forest Posts 10-0 Shutout of Davidson

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - Wake Forest's Charlie Mellies, Matt Hammond and Brad Kledzik combined on a four-hit shutout to lead the Demon Deacons to a 10-0 rout of Davidson Wednesday afternoon at Hooks Stadium.

With the win, the Deacons move to 19-27 overall. The Wildcats drop to 10-29 with their fifth straight defeat. Wake Forest and Davidson split the 2008 season series with each squad picking up a home victory.

On Wednesday, Wake got great pitching and great hitting to cruise to the easy win. Early on, however, it looked as though the Deacons might struggle coming through with runners on base. Wake scored a run in each the second and third innings but left the bases loaded on both occasions. The Deacs left 12 runners on base for the game, eight of which came during the first four innings.

Boston College Defeats Dartmouth, 8-5

HANOVER, N.H. - Boston College (21-24) scored six times in the top of the second inning and held on defeat Dartmouth (24-15), 8-5, at Red Rolfe Field on Wednesday afternoon.

BC tallied 12 hits against the Big Green pitching staff, including four players with multi-hit contests. Michael Belfiore and Tony Sanchez each collected two hits and a RBI, while Garret Smith went 2-for-4 with a solo homer, and Mickey Wiswall registered two singles and two RBIs on the day.

Ted Ratliff (2-1) worked the first five innings and allowed one earned run on five hits with seven punch outs to earn the win.

John Leonard tossed a scoreless sixth with a pair of strikeouts. Chris Kowalski bridged the gap to Belfiore in the ninth. Kowalski worked 1.2 innings, while Belfiore tossed the ninth to earn his sixth save of the year.

VMI Tops Virginia Tech 8-7 in Dramatic Ninth Inning

LEXINGTON, Va. - VMI's Brian Sandridge scored on a bases-loaded walk with two outs in the bottom of the ninth inning to give the Keydets an 8-7 non-conference victory over Virginia Tech on Wednesday night at Gray-Minor Stadium.

Sandridge walked as the second batter of the inning and moved to second on Justin Hess' grounder to third, which was misplayed by Tech third baseman Matt Blow. After Justin Topping singled to fill the bases, Shane Geisslinger came on and drew the game-winning walk off of Tech reliever Rhett Ballard (High Point, N.C.), who took the loss to fall to 2-6 after tossing 2.1 innings of two-hit ball. He gave up two runs but neither was earned, as the Hokies tied a season high with five errors in the field.

VMI's walk-off walk wouldn't have been necessary, though, if not for a clutch comeback effort by the Hokies (18-27) in the top half of the inning.
