GREENSBORO, N.C. - Eight Atlantic Coast Conference baseball players have been named to the Louisville Slugger/Collegiate Baseball 2008 Freshman All-America team.
Four conference pitchers were named to the squad, including Miami's Chris Hernandez (11-0, 2.55 ERA), North Carolina's Matt Harvey (6-2, 2.13), North Carolina's Colin Bates (4-0, 1.41) and Georgia Tech's Deck McGuire (7-0, 3.69).
Position players include Georgia Tech shortstop Derek Dietrich (.336, 14 home runs, 56 RBI), Florida State third baseman Stuart Tapley (.336, 3 home runs, 17 RBIs), Virginia outfielder Dan Grovatt (.354, 3 homers, 39 RBI) and Clemson utility player Kyle Parker (.297, 9 homers, 33 RBI).
Hernandez was voted 2008 ACC Freshman of the Year and Collegiate Baseball's Freshman Pitcher of the Year. He was a first-team All-ACC selection, along with Parker. Dietrich earned second-team All-ACC honors.
