In ACC Tournament: First meeting

The lone regular-season meeting saw North Carolina win 92-53 at Chapel Hill on Feb. 16. Tyler Hansbrough scored 23 points and grabbed nine rebounds to lead the Tar Heels, and Wayne Ellington added 19 points. Three other North Carolina players scored in double figures. Freshman guard Malcolm Delaney scored a career-high 20 points to lead the Hokies ... Virginia Tech regrouped from the loss to reel off four straight wins and enters today's contest with five wins in its last six games ... North Carolina has won nine straight ... The Tar Heels own a 13-0 record in games between the programs played at neutral sites .... North Carolina holds a 3-2 edge in the series since Virginia Tech joined the ACC prior to the 2004-05 season, with both of the Hokies' wins coming in 2007 ... A North Carolina win would put the Tar Heels in the ACC Tournament finals for a league-high 29th time. North Carolina and Duke share the conference record for tournament championships with 16 apiece. The Tar Heels' four previous titles in Charlotte came in 1968, 1969, 1991 and 1994 ... North Carolina is playing in the semifinals for the 42nd time ...Virginia Tech is in the tournament semifinals for the second straight year and could reach its first title game with a win ... A Virginia Tech victory would also assure the Hokies of their second straight season with at least 20 wins under fifth-year head coach Seth Greenberg.

Duke and Clemson met once during the regular season, with the Blue Devils winning 93-80 at Cameron Indoor Stadium on Jan. 19. DeMarcus Nelson's 24 points led Duke, which defeated the Tigers for the 22nd consecutive time. Freshman Kyle Singler added 17 points for the Blue Devils, and K.C. Rivers scored 16 points to lead Clemson ... The Tigers' last win in the series came in January of 1997, when they defeated the Blue Devils in overtime at Littlejohn Coliseum .... Duke, seeking its 17th ACC Tournament title, is in the semifinals for the 38th time overall and for the 10th time in the last 11 years ... The Blue Devils won prior ACC Tournaments in Charlotte in 1992, 1999, 2000 and 2002 .... Clemson is in the tournament semifinals for the first time since 1998, when the Tigers suffered a 66-64 loss to Duke on a buzzer shot by the Blue Devils' William Avery ... Clemson last faced the Blue Devils in ACC Tournament play in 2000, with Duke posting a 94-63 win in the opening round ... A win today would put the Tigers in the championship game for the second time in school history and the first time since they suffered a 77-66 loss to Wake Forest in 1962. Clemson advanced to the title game that year as a No. 6 seed and defeated a second-seeded Duke team in the semifinals.
