NOTING THE ACC

  • With a 6-3 (.667) mark, the ACC is tied with the Big 12 as the winningest conference in the 2008 NCAA Tournament ... the Pac- 10 is third at 8-5 (.615).
  • The ACC has had at least one Final Four team in 17 of the last 21 years and in 22 of the last 28.
  • With a 329-163 (.669) mark, the ACC is the winningest conference in NCAA Tournament history.
  • With its 6-3 mark in this year's NCAA Tournament, the ACC extended its non-losing streak in NCAA Tournament play to 21 years in a row. The Big East has the nation's next longest current non-losing streak at 15 straight years.
  • Since 1981 four different ACC schools have won a total of eight NCAA titles, three more than any other conference.
  • Since 1981, six different ACC schools have made a total of 27 Final Four appearances, 10 more than any other conference.
  • Over the last eight years (since 2001), the ACC leads all conferences with seven Final Four teams.

  • Eleven of the 12 ACC teams have made at least one NCAA Tournament appearance since 2005.
  • Since the NCAA started assigning seeds with the 1979 Tournament, the ACC has won more games (23), and is the only conference with a winning record

North Carolina (36-2) vs. Kansas (35-3)

North Carolina and Kansas have played each other eight times with the Tar Heels holding a 6-2 advantage ... the two teams have played three games in the NCAA Tournament with all three meetings taking place in the Final Four ... UNC is 2-1 against Kansas in Final Four play, including a 54-53 three-overtime win in the 1957 NCAA championship game and a 78-68 victory in the 1993 NCAA semifinals ... the Jayhawks posted a 79-73 win in the 1991 NCAA semifinals.

North Carolina makes its 17th Final Four appearance and eighth in the last 18 years following Sunday's 83-73 win over Louisville in the East Regional final ... the Tar Heels have played in at least one Final Four in each of the past seven decades and are 96-38 (.716) in NCAA Tournament play ... North Carolina captured its 17th ACC title with an 86-81 win over Clemson in the finals of the 55th annual ACC Tournament ... North Carolina's Tyler Hansbrough named National Player of the Year by Sports Illustrated, The Sporting News, Rupp, ESPN.com and Basketball Times ... Hansbrough has scored 10 or more points in 38 consecutive games and has scored more points (2,151) than any other junior in ACC history.
