![]() Men's Lacrosse ACCtion: Sunday, March 16
March 17, 2008 No. 6 Maryland Men's Lacrosse Flies By Air Force, 16-4 COLLEGE PARK, Md. - Freshman attackman Ryan Young had four assists for the second time this season to lead the sixth-ranked University of Maryland men's lacrosse team in a 16-4 romp over Air Force Sunday afternoon at Ludwig Field. The Falcons (1-4) took an early 1-0 lead on Griffin Nevitt's unassisted goal at the 11:09 mark. Maryland responded with three straight goals by freshman Grant Catalino, sophomore Brian Farrell and junior All-American Dan Groot. Nevitt and Tristan Newkirk scored for Air Force in the span of 27 seconds near the end of the first quarter to tie the game at 3-3, but that's where the Falcon upset bid came to an end. On the ensuing face-off, just eight seconds following Newkirk's score, senior face-off man Will Dalton took advantage of a procedure call against Air Force and rumbled down the center of the field and fired a shot past Falcon goalie Woody Johnson to give Maryland a 4-3 lead and start a 13-0 scoring run for the Terps. Freshman Travis Reed, who was one of eight Terrapins with multiple points in the game, scored the eventual game winner off of Young's second assist of the game. Redshirt junior goalie Jason Carter, who made a career-best nine saves in just 30:00 of work, started the play for the next Maryland score with a terrific save on a Brian Massa shot. Farrell scooped up the groundball off the rebound and flipped a pass to senior defender Joe Cinosky, who was streaking through the midfield. Cinosky carried the ball into the Maryland attack zone, drew a couple of Falcon defenders to him and slipped a nifty pass to junior attackman Danny Gallagher, who beat Johnson from the left wing.
