GREENSBORO, N.C. - Maryland senior Stephen King has been named as the 2007 ACC Scholar-Athlete of the Year for men's soccer, Atlantic Coast Conference Commissioner John Swofford announced today.

The ACC Scholar-Athlete of the Year Awards were established this past September to be awarded annually to the top junior or senior student-athlete in their respective sports. Candidates for the awards must have maintained a 3.0 grade point average for their career as well as a 3.0 during the last two semesters.

King finished his career second all-time in assists at Maryland with 33, while his 93 career points ranks sixth. He also scored 30 goals, which is just one shy of the top 10. The finance major's three-assist performance against No. 14 Virginia on November 3, 2007, tied the program record for assists in a game. He racked up 13 assists in 2007, which is the second most in school history in a single season.

King, a native of Medford, N.J., was instrumental for the Terrapins throughout his four-year career, earning a start in every contest Maryland played. He started a Terp-record 93 games in his career.

In addition to being a two-time Academic All-American, King has also been named to the ACC Honor Roll three times and the Maryland Honor Roll a total of seven times. The midfielder was also a semifinalist for the Hermann Trophy for the second-straight year, a finalist for the Lowe's Senior CLASS Award, a first-team All-American by College Soccer News, and a first-team selection for ESPN The Magazine's Academic All-America team.
