Wolfpack Advances with Win Over William & Mary at Blue/Gray Invitational

MONTGOMERY, Ala. - NC State men's tennis won its first match of the Blue/Gray Tennis Classic against No. 60 William & Mary on Friday in Montgomery, Ala. The #49 Wolfpack (7-6, 0-1 ACC) won the first four singles matches as the match ended, 4-0, after rain disrupted the tournament start times all day.

David Chermak was the first to win and get on the board, turning in a 6-3, 6-2, at No. 6 singles to even his record at 3-3 at No. 6 singles this season. When Chermak doesn't play No. 6, the Wolfpack is just 2-5 at that spot in the lineup.

Jay Weinacker ran his record to 9-3 on the season with a win at No. 2, 6-4, 6-1.

Derek Stephens made it No. 3 with his straight set win, 6-4, 6-4, at No. 5 to even his record at 5-5.

Duke Gets Shut Out at No. 7 USC 7-0

LOS ANGELES - The Duke men's tennis team finished 1-2 on their spring break trip to Southern California after falling to a top-10 team for the second straight match on Friday as No. 7 USC claimed a 7-0 victory over the Blue Devils.

The Blue Devils were without two of their top three singles players on Friday which helped the Trojans claim victories in all six singles contests. USC had five ranked singles players which proved too much for Duke as four of the six singles matches ended in straight sets. Sophomore Dylan Arnould played at No. 2 for the first time in his career and won the first set on a tiebreaker 7-6 (2) before falling in three sets to No. 58 Kaes Van't Hof. Freshman Jared Pinsky moved from his normal position of No. 5 to the third spot in the lineup while Alex Stone moved from No. 6 to No. 4 in the lineup. Filling out the lineup for Duke was Alain Michel at No. 5 and Aaron Carpenter at No. 6.


Georgia Tech Falls 5-2 to Arizona State

ATLANTA - Guillermo Gomez and Eliot Potvin each picked up singles wins but it was not enough as the Georgia Tech men's tennis team (9-5) fell to No. 15 Arizona State (11-0), 5-2, Friday afternoon at the Bill Moore Tennis Center.

"Arizona State has been playing some good tennis lately and when things got close they came up with some good play," head coach Kenny Thorne said. "Our guys played with a lot more passion today. They came out much better in singles than our last match."

The Sun Devils took an early 1-0 lead after sweeping the doubles matches. Wes Miller and John Nanosky defeated Doug Kenny and Potvin, 8-3, in the third position followed by Andres Arango and Harry Skinner's, 8-4, win over George Gvelesiani and Guillermo Gomez on court two. The Yellow Jackets duo of Scott Blackmon and Ryan Smith fought their way back from a 7-4 deficit but were unable to pull off the win, falling in a tiebreaker, 9-8 (7-4), to T.J. Bellama and Matt Brooklyn at No. 1 doubles.

Frogs Trap Wake Forest 4-3

FORT WORTH, Texas - Despite opening the match with a doubles win, the No. 22 Wake Forest men's tennis team was topped 4-3 by No. 27 TCU on Friday in Fort Worth, Texas.

Wake Forest now sits at 9-5 for the season as it heads back into conference play on Tuesday, March 18 with North Carolina. The Horned Frogs improved to 11-4 with the victory on Friday evening.

WFU's Mariusz Adamski and Jon Wolff jumped quickly into play with an 8-2 win at No. 3 doubles. 31st-ranked WFU pair Steve Forman and Cory Parr followed with its fourth consecutive win (8-5) to clinch the doubles point.
