No. 7 Florida State Men's Tennis Dominates No. 61 Clemson After Achieving Highest Ranking In Program History

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - Just hours after achieving the highest ranking in program history the No. 7 ranked Florida State men's tennis team dominated the No. 61-ranked Clemson Tigers 7-0 Tuesday evening at the Scott Speicher Tennis Center.

"Last year we were right there, but we just weren't getting over the hump," FSU head coach Dwayne Hultquist said. "I thought they did a great job of having that killer instinct and finishing matches off."

"We're very confident and excited about where we are," FSU player Brad Mixson said. "We know our toughest matches are still to come and we didn't take Clemson lightly and we took care of them."

The Seminoles (12-2, 3-0) began the match by dominating the doubles sweeping all three matches. The No. 3 team of junior Drew Bailey and sophomore Brad Mixson got off the court first defeating Clemson's (10-11, 0-3) Gesa Boryachinskiy and Kevin Galloway 8-1. Senior Sam Chang and junior Maciek Sykut clinched the doubles point with their 8-3 victory over the Tigers Carlos Alvarez and Kevin Fleck and the No. 2 position. FSU finished the sweep when the 27th ranked duo in the nation sophomore Jean-Yves Aubone and freshman Clint Bowles defeated Derek DiFazio and Ike Belk 8-5 in No. 1 doubles.

Yellow Jackets Sweep Doubleheader

ATLANTA - The Georgia Tech men's team (11-5) picked up a pair of non-conference wins Tuesday over Wofford (7-8) and Chattanooga (10-4) at the Bill Moore Tennis Center. The Yellow Jackets were led by their freshmen, who accounted for nine singles wins in the two matches.

Guillermo Gomez and George Gvelesiani opened the early match against Wofford with a quick 8-1 win in the No. 2 doubles position. On court one, Scott Blackmon and Ryan Smith clinched the point with an 8-3 win over Andrew Stubbs and George Kernodle. Eliot Potvin and Miguel Muguruza won the final doubles match for Tech with an 8-7 win in the third spot.

In singles play, Smith and Blackmon pushed the lead to 3-0 with straight set wins in the No. 2 and No. 3 positions, respectively. Potvin clinched the win with a 6-2, 7-6 (7-4) win over Scott Collins in the fourth spot in the lineup. Gomez, Muguruza and Austin Roebuck completed the shutout with wins at the No. 1, No. 5 and No. 6 positions.

"We played two tough teams today," head coach Kenny Thorne said. "They were both tougher than the score indicated. I was proud of the way our guys came out this afternoon after playing a tough match this morning."
