Wake Forest Finishes 3-0 in Weekend Action

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - The No. 29 Wake Forest men's tennis team finished up weekend action with wins over Boston College and Elon, completing a perfect 3-0 sweep at Leighton Stadium.

The Demon Deacons (12-6, 3-1) followed a 6-1 victory over Maryland on Friday afternoon with a 7-0 morning win against the Boston College Eagles (10-6, 0-4) and a 5-2 twilight decision over Elon (10-6).

Cory Parr, Mariusz Adamski and Jason Morgenstern all completed the weekend series with three singles victories.


No. 54 NC State Defeats No. 53 Maryland

RALEIGH, N.C. - No. 54 NC State men's tennis defeated No. 53 Maryland on Saturday, March 22, 7-0, at the J.W. Isenhour Tennis Center in Raleigh, N.C. The Pack won the doubles point, as well as all six singles matches to shutout the Terrapins. NC State is now 9-8 (2-2 ACC) this season.

James McGee and Christian Welte were the first duo to win, defeating David Kwon and Alex Aksanov, 8-1, at No. 2. The No. 9 doubles tandem of Nick Cavaday and Jay Weinacker secure the doubles point for the Pack with a win over Boris Fetbroyt and Amit Inbar, 8-6, at No. 1. David Chermak and Derek Stephens fell to Nickolai Nielsen and Michael Coleman, 8-6, at No. 3.

Cavaday quickly took the first singles win of the day, taking down Kwon, 6-2, 6-2, at No. 2, and Chermak followed with a win of his own over Coleman, 6-1, 6-4, at No. 6. Welte secured the win, taking down Nielsen, 6-4, 6-3, at No. 4.


 

 


No. 37 Hokies Top No. 41 Georgia Tech, 6-1

ATLANTA, Ga. - The Virginia Tech men's tennis team earned its first win in the month of March this season after losing the last four contests with a 6-1 victory over ACC rival No. 41 Georgia Tech at the Bill Moore Tennis Center. The No. 37 Hokies improve to 10-4 on the season and are back above .500 in the conference with a 3-2 record, while the Yellow Jackets fall to 11-7 (1-4 ACC).

Virginia Tech swept Georgia Tech in the doubles matches for the first point of the contest then captured five of the six singles matches for the win.

Following the doubles, the Yellow Jackets briefly tied the match as 72nd-ranked Guillermo Gomez upset 55th-ranked Albert Larregola (Sr., Lleida, Spain), 6-4, 6-1 in the No. 1 match, but the Hokies retook the lead for good with a 6-1, 6-2 victory by Nicolas Delgado de Robles (Jr., Madrid, Spain) in his No. 2 match against Ryan Smith.
