No. 7 Florida State Men's Tennis Rolls Past No. 66 Duke 6-1

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - The seventh-ranked Florida State men's tennis team rebounded from its 4-3 loss on Friday night to 13th ranked North Carolina by taking the first six points in a 6-1 victory over No. 66 Duke on Sunday, March 23, at the Scott Speicher Tennis Center.

"I think it was really important for us to bounce back," FSU head coach Dwayne Hultquist said. "Obviously we were disappointed on Friday so I thought getting off to a good start was important [Sunday]."

The Seminoles (13-3, 4-1) did just that by sweeping the doubles matches against the Blue Devils (5-8, 2-1). On court three, the duo of junior Drew Bailey and sophomore Brad Mixson got FSU off to a fast start by defeating Duke's Alex Stone and Dylan Arnould 8-4. The Garnet and Gold wrapped up the doubles point at the No. 2 position as senior Sam Chang and junior Maciek Sykut beat Kiril Dimitrov and Reid Carleton 8-3. Florida State finished the sweep with the No. 27-ranked team of sophomore Jean-Yves Aubone and freshman Clint Bowles defeated the Blue Devils David Goulet and Christopher Price 9-7.

Top-Ranked Cavaliers Top Clemson 6-1

CLEMSON, S.C. - The Virginia men's tennis team concluded a four-match conference road trip with a 6-1 win over No. 61 Clemson Sunday afternoon at the Hoke Sloan Tennis Center. The victory was the Cavaliers' 19th consecutive win, extending their school record streak. Virginia improves to 19-0 overall this season and 5-0 in the ACC.

Virginia took a 1-0 lead in the match by taking the doubles point. Top-ranked Somdev Devvarman (Chennai, India) and Treat Huey (Alexandria, Va.) dismantled Ike Belk and Derek DiFazio 8-0 at the No. 1 position. The Cavaliers clinched the opening point as Michael Shabaz (Fairfax, Va.) and Sanam Singh (Chandigarh, India) topped Kevin Gallaway and Gera Boryachinskiy 8-3 at No. 3 doubles.

In singles, the Cavaliers won five of the six matches, with four of the wins coming in straight sets. Devvarman recorded his 21st consecutive singles win, setting a new UVa single season win streak record, with a 6-2, 6-4 win over Carlos Alvarez. Huey topped Kevin Fleck 6-3, 6-3 at No. 3 singles and Singh defeated Belk 6-2, 6-1 at No. 4 singles. The victory was Singh's 18th consecutive singles win, as he remains undefeated in dual match play. Lee Singer (Laguna Niguel, Calif.) topped Gallaway 6-2, 6-1 at No. 6 singles and Houston Barrick (Brentwood, Tenn.) rallied for a three set win, 3-6, 7-5, 6-2 over DiFazio at No. 5 singles.
