Virginia Completes Undefeated Regular Season With Win Over Wake Forest

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. - Top-ranked Virginia completed an undefeated regular season with a 7-0 win over No. 30 Wake Forest Sunday afternoon before a Snyder Tennis Center record 859 fans. The Cavaliers (25-0, 11-0 ACC) finished the ACC regular season unbeaten for the second consecutive season and the third time in the past four years.

"To go through an entire regular season undefeated is so hard to do," said head coach Brian Boland. "It doesn't happen very often so this is obviously a big moment for our program. It is a special accomplishment and we realize what an achievement it is."

The Cavaliers opened the match by sweeping the doubles point. At the No. 1 position, Somdev Devvarman (Chennai, India) and Treat Huey (Alexandria, Va.) topped Cory Parr and Steven Forman 8-6. Ted Angelinos (Athens, Greece) and Lee Singer (Laguna Niguel, Calif.) clinched the opening point with their 8-4 win over Jonathan Wolff and Jason Morgenstern at No. 3 doubles. Dominic Inglot (London, England) and Michael Shabaz (Fairfax, Va.) completed the sweep with a tiebreaker win over Mariusz Adamski and Carlos Salmon at No. 2.

Hokies Defeat NC State, 4-3

BLACKSBURG, Va. - Sophomore Yoann Re (Verdun, Quebec, Canada) made sure seniors Albert Larregola (Lleida, Spain) and Ignaci Roca (San Jose, Costa Rica) left the Burrows/Burleson Tennis Center for the last time with a smile as he won the No. 3 singles match in three sets to give the Virginia Tech men's tennis team a 4-3 decision against No. 49 NC State in the final regular season match for both squads. With the victory, No. 29 Tech improved to 14-7 and 6-5 in ACC play, while the Wolfpack fell to 11-13, 4-7.

The contest marked the seventh time this year that the Hokies found themselves in a match decided by one point. They won their third match as a result of taking two of the three doubles contests and three of six in singles.

The score seesawed between the two squads as NCSU's 64th-ranked James McGee defeated 40th-ranked Larregola in the No. 1 match, 6-2, 6-3. Tech earned the next two points as Brandon Corace (Jr., Naples, Fla.) beat David Chermak 6-2, 6-1 at No. 6 and Sebastien Jacques (Fr., Magog, Quebec, Canada) defeated Derek Stephens, 6-3, 6-2 at No. 5.

COLLEGE PARK, Md. - The No. 23 University of Miami men's tennis team picked up its fourth-straight win, defeating No. 58 Maryland, 5-2, on Sunday afternoon to close out its regular-season slate.

With the win, the Hurricanes improved to 13-6 overall and 6-4 in the ACC, while the Terrapins fell to 10-10 on the season and 2-9 in the conference.

Miami's No. 1 and 2 doubles teams were victorious for the Hurricanes on Sunday afternoon, getting Miami off to a strong 1-0 start.

Duke Defeats Georgia Tech 4-3 On Senior Day

DURHAM, N.C. - The No. 42 Duke men's tennis team ended the 2007-08 regular season on Sunday with a 4-3 win over No. 50 Georgia Tech to give seniors David Goulet and Alex Stone a win in their final regular season match at Ambler Tennis Stadium.

Carolina Tennis Enjoys Senior Day With Victory Over Clemson

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - The No. 11-ranked University of North Carolina men's tennis team celebrated Senior Day at the Cone-Kenfield Tennis Center Sunday afternoon with a 7-0 victory over the Clemson Tigers. Prior to the match, UNC's eight-man senior class of Benjamin Carlotti, Lenny Gullan, David Stone, Will Plyler, Tristan Heinrich, Karl Wishart, Jeff Schroeder and Sandeep Daiya were honored for their contributions to UNC tennis.

This senior class has many accomplishments to its credit. Sunday's win clinched the No. 2 seed in the ACC Tournament for the second straight year for the Tar Heels and it marked the second successive season with nine ACC regular-season wins, the school record for conference wins in a season. The senior class finished its career with a home record of 56-8. They also played on teams that in 2006 and 2007 were the last unbeaten teams in the nation in dual matches before those squads fell for the first time in late-season encounters.
