GREENSBORO, N.C. - Two All-Atlantic Coast Conference performers, including league Wrestler of the Year Hudson Taylor, highlight the 2007-08 All-ACC Academic Wrestling team, announced Thursday by league commissioner John D. Swofford.
To be eligible for consideration, a student-athlete must have earned a 3.00 grade point average for the fall 2007 semester and maintained a 3.00 cumulative average during his academic career.
Leading all schools with 10 selections to the All-Academic team was Duke. At the head of the list for the Blue Devils, who matched a school record with 12 dual meet victories this past season and fi nished 12-9 overall, were 2007-08 Wrestler of the Week honorees John Barone and Ben Wales along with upperclassmen Kellan McKeon and Addison Nuding, who combined to post 54 wins last season.
Maryland, the 2008 ACC Champion, is represented by three student-athletes, including Taylor, an All-American performer in the 197- pound division, while NC State, Virginia and Virginia Tech had a pair of academic honorees each. Top performers on the 2007-08 All-ACC Academic team include Maryland's Taylor and Josh Haines, who ranked among the nation's top 20 in the 184-pound weight class for 12 weeks during the season, as well as Virginia All-ACC selection Nick Nelson.
