GREENSBORO, N.C. - Maryland senior Crystal Langhorne has been selected as the 2008 ACC Scholar-Athlete of the Year for women's basketball, league commissioner John Swofford announced Friday.

The Scholar-Athlete Award was established this past September to be awarded annually to the top junior or senior student-athlete in their respective sport. Candidates for the award must have maintained a 3.0 grade point average for their career as well as a 3.0 during the last two semesters.

A four-time All-ACC performer, Langhorne will finish her career as Maryland's all-time leading scorer and rebounder. She is the only player in Terrapin history to have scored 2,000 points and grab 1,000 rebounds, and also holds the ACC and Maryland record for career field goal percentage. In four years of play for the Terps, she has registered a school-high 55 "double-doubles," and started in a record 128 games.

In 25 contests this season, Langhorne is averaging 16.5 points and 9.2 rebounds, ranking among the league's top six in each. She currently ranks second in field goal percentage (.637), and is among the league's top 15 in minutes played per game. With Langhorne playing the forward position, Maryland has posted a 29-2 overall record, with a 13-1 mark in ACC play and six wins over ranked teams.

Langhorne has also excelled off of the court in her four years at Maryland. In addition to being a three-time member of the ACC Academic Honor Roll, she is the only player in the ACC to have made the All-ACC Academic Women's Basketball Team in each of the last three years. She has been named to the ESPN the Magazine/CoSIDA Academic All-American Team in each of the last two years and to the Academic All-District Team in each of the last three. A three-time Deans' List honoree and four-time member of the AD Honor Roll, Langhorne will graduate from Maryland this year with a degree in communications.
