Virginia Tech loses non-conference game to Louisville, 10-9

BLACKSBURG, Va. - The Virginia Tech women's lacrosse team had its two-game home winning streak snapped in a 10-9 loss to the Louisville Cardinals on Friday at Tech Lacrosse Stadium.

Tech (2-8) got its nine goals from seven different players, led by a pair of goals from both senior Kady McBrearty and junior Rachel Culp. McBrearty now has 23 multiple-goal games in her career, while Culp has 12. McBrearty has scored at least one goal in 21 straight contests. Caitlyn Wier made it a three-way tie for the team lead in points for the game, totaling two points on a goal and an assist.

Hokie goalkeeper Kari Morrison scooped up a season-high eight ground balls, which fell just one short of tying her career high. Morrison also stopped 15 shots in 60 minutes of action in the cage.

No. 9 Tar Heels Top No. 4 Duke, 16-14

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - Led by four goals and four assists from sophomore Megan Bosica, the ninth-ranked North Carolina women's lacrosse team beat fourth-ranked Duke Saturday afternoon at Fetzer Field. UNC improved to 7-2 on the season and picked up its first Atlantic Coast Conference win to even its league mark at 1-1. Duke fell to 7-2 overall and 1-1 in ACC play.

The win was Carolina's second in a row over Duke, following a 12-11 Tar Heel win in the semifinals of the 2007 Atlantic Coast Conference Tournament in Chapel Hill. The Blue Devils have won seven of the last 10 meetings in the series, however, and they lead the overall series 11-9.

Tar Heel sophomore Kristen Taylor opened the scoring on an assist from Bosica just over two minutes into the game, but Duke responded with unassisted goals by Emma Hamm, Danielle Kachulis and Lindsay Gilbride to go up by two. After Bosica answered with her first goal of the game, at the 19:44 mark, Duke's Hamm scored again on an assist by Gilbride to put the Blue Devils back up by two.

UNC then scored the next six goals in a row, taking a lead it would never relinquish. The Tar Heels led by as many as four goals in the first half, but Duke closed the margin to two, 10-8, at halftime.

Dobbie's Seven Goals Lead No. 3 Women's Lacrosse Past No. 10 Stanford

STANFORD, Calif. - Senior Dana Dobbie scored seven goals, had one assist, and secured five draw controls to pace the No. 3 Maryland women's lacrosse team to a 15-7 win at No. 10 Stanford on March 22. It is the second time in her career she has scored seven goals in a Terrapins uniform.

Dobbie matched her personal best which came at Dartmouth on March 16, 2007 in a 15-7 victory.

Seniors Lauren Cohen and Casey Magor both had hat tricks for the Terps while classmate Kelly Kasper dished out two assists while recording five draw controls and three caused turnovers. Kasper now has 75 career assists which is one away from entering the top 10 all-time.

Maryland's defense allowed less than 10 goals for the fourth-straight game and forced 18 Cardinal turnovers. Senior Katie Pumphrey caused six turnovers while sophomore Karissa Taylor forced four. Senior Allie Buote made 10 saves in goal.

The win ended Stanford's three-game win streak which included a pair of wins over top-10 teams in Penn and Notre Dame.

No. 4 Tigers Notch Last Second Goal to Upset Second-Ranked Cavaliers

PRINCETON, N.J. -Tiger junior Christine Casaceli found the back of the net with 2.7 seconds remaining in regulation to keep No. 4 Princeton's perfect season in tact and upset the No. 2 Virginia women's lacrosse team, 8-7, Saturday afternoon in the Class of 1952 Stadium. The win moves Princeton to 6-0 on the season, while dropping the Cavaliers to 6-2 overall.

In the final seconds of the game, senior Alice Hughey forced a turnover to keep the Tigers from a scoring opportunity, but an off sides call on Virginia gave the ball back to Princeton with about 10 seconds remaining. The Tigers' attack capitalized on the opportunity, escaping with the win in regulation.

Junior Blair Weymouth led Virginia's attack with three goals and an assist, while senior Megan O'Malley contributed two goals. Fifth-year senior Kaitlin Swagart and sophomore Brittany Kalkstein each notched one, and junior Ashley McCulloch had a hand in two goals.

BC Drops Non-Conference Matchup, 13-10

Amherst, Mass. - Boston College fell, 13-10, to Massachusetts on Saturday afternoon. The Eagles dropped to 2-5 on the season, while the Minutewomen improved to 2-6. Junior captain Jenna McCabe and sophomore Lauren Costello led the team with four points each.

McCabe scored the first two goals to put the Eagles on top in the first five minutes of the game. UMass netted four straight scores to take the lead. With 19:21 to play in the first half, junior Lauren Fitzpatrick recorded an unassisted goal to pull BC within one.

The Minutewomen went back up three off goals by Kathleen Typadis and Haley Smith, but the Eagles tied the game when Fitzpatrick nailed two in a row, followed by a McCabe goal. All three scores were assisted by Costello. With 3:25 to go, Typadis netted her seventh goal of the season to put UMass up one heading into halftime.

Tech drops 8-7 decision to Delaware

BLACKSBURG, Va. - Junior midfielder Rachel Culp tied her career high with four goals, but the Virginia Tech women's lacrosse team could not avoid its third-straight one-goal loss in an 8-7 decision against the Delaware Blue Hens on Sunday at Tech Lacrosse Stadium.

Tech (2-9) got seven goals from four different players, including Culp's second career four-goal performance, the first coming last season against Longwood. Culp turned in Tech's fourth four-goal output of the season en route to her 13th career multiple-goal game.

After Caitlyn Weir opened the scoring for Tech at the 16:19 mark to start the game, Culp scored the Hokies' next two goals to bring the score to a 3-3 tie. Delaware's Casey McCrudden answered with a goal with just nine seconds left in the first stanza to take a 4-3 advantage into halftime.
