Allbritten Dinger Downs 49ers in Ninth, 2-1

CHARLOTTE, N.C. - Alyssa Allbritten belted a solo shot to dead center in the top of the ninth to give NC State a doubleheader sweep of Charlotte, 2-1, on Tuesday, April 15. Allbritten went 3-for-4 with two RBIs and a run scored at the plate, leading the Wolfpack (27-20) over the 49ers (25-22).

Mendy McKenzie tossed 4.1 hitless innings to begin the game, but it was Lindsay Campana (16-13) that picked up the decision in relief. Campana tossed the final two frames without allowing a single base runner for the 49ers.

Emily Jeffery (13-9) suffered the defeat.

Allbritten put the Pack ahead with her 17th double of the season in the top of the third. Ashleigh Davis walked, took second on a wild pitch and scored on Allbritten's liner into right-center.

Harkey Triple Puts Away Charlotte, 1-0

CHARLOTTE, N.C. - An RBI triple from Blair Harkey handed NC State a 1-0 road win over Charlotte on Tuesday, April 15. The decision moves the Pack to 26-20 on the year, while the 49ers dip to 25-21.

Harkey had two of State's four hits, including the game winner.

Lindsay Campana (15-13) got the victory, allowing just three hits and issuing one walk while fanning six. Katy Hackett (11-11) was handed the loss.

The Pack had runners on the corners in the top of the first but didn't score, as Shanna Smith and Claudia Cooper both recorded infield singles.

Hokies Sweep Highlanders in Non-Conference Action

BLACKSBURG, Va. - The 19th-ranked Virginia Tech softball team swept its New River Valley rivals Tuesday afternoon, downing Radford 3-1 and 13-3 (5) at Tech Softball Park.

In the first game, Radford took a 1-0 lead in the third inning, touching up Angela Tincher for a single run, but the Hokies stormed back in the fourth inning to get things back under control. Erin Ota scored from first base on Charisse Mariconda's double to the gap to tie it up. Mariconda took third base on the throw home and tied up the game on Kelsey Hoffman's RBI groundout. Misty Hall then put it away with a solo home run to center field to make it 3-0.

After a rough start, Tincher settled down to pick up the win and move to 24-5 on the year. She tossed 138 pitches for the game and walked five batters in the first three innings, but settled down nicely to finish with a two-hitter, walking no more after that point. The senior from Eagle Rock, Va., finished with 17 strikeouts.
