![]() Softball ACCtion: Saturday, May 3 May 4, 2008 Boston College Sweeps Final ACC Doubleheader From Maryland CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. - The Boston College softball team (31-29, 7-13 ACC) found the offensive spark it was looking for, combining for eight runs on eleven hits against Maryland (35-21, 6-13 ACC) in a doubleheader Saturday afternoon at Commander Shea Field. BC swept the two games from the Terrapins by scores of 5-2 and 3-1. Freshman Gemma Ypparila came through big for the Eagles at the plate going four for six on the day. She had two big hits in the first game, including a three-run homerun, her second of the season. She singled and notched another homerun in the second game as well. Freshman Allison Gage pitched her 19th complete game of the season for the Eagles in the first game, allowing no hits through the first four innings. She faced 26 batters, allowed two runs on just three hits and struck out six in all. Both teams went scoreless in the first two innings. Senior Carley McNary notched her first hit of the game in the top third inning. She stole second for her 15th stolen base this season. Next, sophomore Taylor Peyton and junior Renee Ramos walked to load the bases. McNary then tallied the Eagles' first run on a fielder's choice. Sophomore Dani Weir picked up her 30th RBI of the season on the play. Freshman Gemma Ypparila followed with her second homerun of the season, a three-run homerun to right field, scoring Peyton and Ramos. BC tallied a total of four runs on two hits in the inning.
