Garden City, N.Y. - The Adelphi University baseball played host to Briarcliffe College on Thursday, March 20 at William J. Bonomo Memorial Field. The Panthers and Briarcliffe both picked up 12 hits, but Adelphi turned those into 11 runs, while the visitors managed just four. The win give Adelphi an overall record of 6-9.

Briarcliffe scored two runs in the first, on a two out single and held Adelphi scoreless in the bottom half of the inning, taking a 2-0 lead after one. Joe Maranino slapped in two runs in the bottom of the second, driving the ball right field and scoring Mike Connors and Chris Weidlein, evening the game at two.

The Panthers blew the game wide open in the third, scoring seven runs to take a 9-2 lead. Matt Kenney started the bottom of the third with a double down the line and scored two batters later on a Mike Colonna ground out. With the bases loaded Connors drew a walk, bringing Adelphi's second run of the inning across the plate. A Maranino blast to center brought in two more runs to make the score 6-2.

After a Mike Mongiello bunt single, Kenney drew a walk, scoring the fifth run of the inning. A Robert Paccione single drove in the final two runs of the inning for the Panthers, giving Adelphi a 9-2 cushion.

With the game in hand Robert Nixon would pitch two more innings, going five innings and striking out one for the win, while Jason Arciuolo, Mike McLasky, Teddy Rohrs and Chris Weidlein combined to throw four innings of two run relief.

Adelphi returns to action on Saturday, March 22 when they play host to Concordia in an East Coast Conference doubleheader that starts at noon.
