Garden City, NY - Adelphi University men's basketball player Richard Byrd (Central Islip, N.Y.) has been named East Coast Conference (ECC) Rookie of the Week as announced by the conference office on Monday, March 3. This is the six time this season that Byrd has been honored by the conference.

Byrd averaged 13 points, 4.5 rebounds and 2.5 assists in a 2-0 week against the University of Bridgeport and LIU -C.W. Post. He had eight points, four rebounds and two assists against Bridgeport, and 18 points, five rebounds and three assists against #18 C.W. Post.

Adelphi returns to action on Wednesday, March 5, when they host the first round of the ECC playoffs against Molloy College beginning at 7:00 p.m. in Historic Woodruff Hall.
