Garden City, N.Y. - The Adelphi Softball team needed eight innings to top Molloy college, 5-4, in game one, but cruised to a 10-2 win in game two this afternoon at Janet L. Ficke Field. The Panthers improve to 13-11 overall and 4-0 in the ECC. The Lions drop to 9-11 on the season and 4-2 in the conference. The Panthers were led offensively by senior Dely Francisco who went 6-for-9 in the sweep with five runs scored. Junior Samantha Johnston was 2-8, but tallied five RBI and two runs. Game One Johnston doubled in the fifth to score Brophy and Francisco. Junior Jessica Vogt followed with a fielder's choice RBI to drive in Johnston and knot the score at 4-4. With runners on second and third in the eighth inning, Johnston's third RBI came on an error by the shortstop as senior Julie Schaper scored the winning run. Freshman Deirdre White recorded the win, not allowing a hit in 4.0 innings while fanning five. Senior Julie Schaper pitched 4.0 innings, giving up seven hits, four runs, four earned and striking out five. Adelphi had five runs on 10 hits with no errors. Molloy had four runs on seven hits with two errors.
Game Two Freshman Leighann Bell (2-3) recorded the win on the mound, with five hits, two runs, two earned with two strikeouts. Adelphi had 10 runs on 14 hits with no errors. Molloy had two runs on five hits with one error. The Panthers complete their four-game homestand tomorrow, March 29, as they host NYIT in a conference doubleheader beginning at 1:00 p.m. |
