Garden City, N.Y. - The Adelphi University softball team split with NYIT, 3-1, 3-4, in a conference doubleheader this afternoon at Janet L. Ficke Field. The Panthers are 14-13 overall and 5-1 in the ECC, while the Bears are 14-4 and 2-2. Game One Senior Julie Schaper (7-2) picked up the win, with three hits, one run, one walk and three strikeouts. Adelphi had three runs on five hits with one error. NYIT had one run on four hits with one error. Game Two NYIT tacked on three runs in the third inning helped by a second Adelphi error and a two RBI triple by Thomas. A RBI single by freshman Deirdre White and a RBI double by Brennan helped close the gap in the fourth inning, 4-3, but the Panthers left runners on second and third to end the inning. Adelphi had hits in each of the last three innings, but were unable to sustain a rally. White (1-3) allowed four hits and four runs in 6.0 innings with two walks and three strikeouts. Freshman Leighann Bell allowed one hit and struck out one in the seventh inning. NYIT had four runs on five hits with one error. Adelphi had three runs on eight hits with two errors. The Panthers end a tough four day homestand with a 8-2 record and get a two-day respite before traveling to Dowling College on April 1. |
