Box Score

Sparkill, N.Y. - The Adelphi softball team traveled to Sparkill, N.Y. to take on the Spartans of St. Thomas Aquinas College and returned home with two wins. The Panthers were down 1-0 in the first inning, but came back to take the first game 9-1. In the second game, the Panthers took a 2-1 advantage in the first inning and never looked back, bringing home an 8-4. With the victory, the Adelphi improves to 17-7 overall and 6-2 in the East Coast Conference. The loss drops St. Thomas Aquinas to 8-4 overall and 3-3 in the ECC.

Game One

The Lady Spartans jumped out to an early lead off a first inning homerun by Karen Thorne. The score would remain the same, when senior, Alana daSilva smacked a two-run homerun to put the Panthers up 2-1. In the fifth Adelphi would continue its scoring from a single by junior, Julie Schaper, to bring a run. daSilva drove home another run off a single, to take a 4-1 lead after the fifth.

Adelphi put the game away in the sixth, scoring five runs off a walk by daSilva, a two RBI single by senior, Kristina LoCastro, and a pair of singles coming from the bats of Ashley Vinti and Kristin Brennan.

Senior, Sheila Feldman recorded the win for the Panthers, allowing one run off five hits, and striking out eleven. Andrea Martorelli took the loss for the Lady Spartans after going 4.2 innings, giving up three runs off two hits and striking out three.

Game Two

Adelphi jumped out to an early lead when sophomore, Diana DiPiano cranked a two-run homerun to put the Panthers up 2-0 after the top of the first. The Lady Spartans immediately responded when Karen Thorne hit her second solo home run of the day. The Panthers would add a run in the fourth from a four-bagger by Christina O'Hara and another in the fifth off a single by Schaper.

Danielle Romanello cut the Panthers lead to two when she hit her second homerun of the season in the bottom of the fifth. Adelphi would add four runs in the sixth that proved insurmountable. St. Thomas recorded two runs in the seventh by a two-run HR from Jess Gogatz.

Julie Schaper picked up her sixth win of the season, pitching seven innings of four-run softball, striking out 16 of the 29 batters faced. Jess Gogatz received the loss for the Lady Spartans, going seven innings, giving up eight runs and striking out six.

The Panthers return to action Thursday, April 5 at Bentley College.
