Garden City, N.Y. - Junior Julie Schaper faced 15 batters, striking out 13 to record a perfect game in an 8-0 victory over Mercy College yesterday afternoon. The Panthers also took game two, 6-1, to complete the conference sweep. Adelphi improves to 20-8 on the season and 8-2 in the ECC, while Mercy falls to 0-8 and 0-8 in the league.

Sophomores Diana DiPiano and Samantha Johston led all batters, each going 4-for-6 with three runs in the sweep. DiPiano also added one RBI.

Game One
Freshman Katie Brophy belted a two-run homerun in the second to put Adelphi up for good. She ended up 3-for-3 in the game with four RBI. The Panthers added three more runs in the third inning to make it 5-0. Doubles from DiPiano and Schaper along with a triple by senior Alana daSilva in the fifth brought the game to a halt.

Schaper's five-inning shutout marked her ninth win of the season. She was also 2-for-2 from the plate with two runs and two RBI. This marks the first complete game by an Adelphi pitcher since April 21, 2004 when Carla Buonviaggio shut down Molloy College, 6-0.

Adelphi had eight runs on 11 hits with no errors. Mercy had no runs and no hits with no errors.

Game Two
Johnston singled in the first, stole second and third and reached home on an error to put the Panthers up early. DiPiano crossed home on fielder's choice after reaching on a single and advancing on a passed ball. The Flyers made it a one-run game in the fourth as Sacharewitz knocked in a solo homerun. Senior Kristina LoCastro's double in the bottom of the inning brought in two runs to seal the win. Adelphi added its fifth run in the next inning with DiPiano accounting for the final run.

Senior Sheila Feldman recorded the win, allowing four hits, one run, one earned, while fanning 16.

Adelphi had six runs on nine hits with no errors. Mercy had one run on four hits with two errors.

The Panthers return to action on Thursday, April 12, as they travel to Pleasantville, New York to take on Pace University.
