Panthers Take Game One From Queens 4-0, Fall in Game Two, 5-4

Box Score

Garden City, N.Y. - The Adelphi University softball team captured game one against Queens College, 4-0, but fell in the nightcap, 5-4, at Janet L. Ficke Field. The Panthers are now 26-16 and 9-3 in the ECC, while the Lady Knights are 12-24 and 6-8 in league action.

The Panthers were led offensively by senior Dely Francisco who went 6 for 8 in the twinbill with three RBI, two stolen bases and a run scored. Junior Jessica Vogt went 5 for 8 with two runs scored and a RBI.

Game One
Scoreless into the fifth inning, Francisco drove in senior Bailey Lawrence on a RBI single for the game-winning run. Senior Diana DiPiano made it 2-0 on a solo home run at the top of the sixth inning. Junior Christina O'Hara, who went 2 for 3, and Francisco combined to push in two more runners for the win.

Senior Julie Schaper (13-2) pitched the three-hitter, striking out 12 along the way.

Adelphi had four runs on 13 hits with one error. Queens had no runs on three hits with no errors.

Game Two
Nicole Mancusi belted a two run homer in the top of the fourth inning to put Queens on top, 2-0. The Panthers evened the score in the fifth on a double by junior Kristin Brennan scored Francisco and Schaper. Adelphi moved ahead in the sixth adding two runs, including a solo home run by Vogt. Mancusi tallied her second HR of the game, to knot the score at four in the bottom of the inning. Nelson, who gave up 12 hits in the game, held the Panthers scoreless in the seventh inning as pinch hitter Katie Miracco's walk-off home run sealed the win for the Lady Knights.

Freshman Christine Robinson struck out five batters, giving up three hits, two runs (earned) in the first four innings. Senior Samantha Tilton (5-2) struck out three, allowing five hits and three runs (earned).

Adelphi had four runs on 12 hits with no errors. Queens had five runs on eight hits with no errors.

The Panthers are back in action on Thursday, April 17, as they take on #25 ranked Georgian Court at 2:30 p.m. in Lakewood, N.J.
