Garden City, N.Y. - The Adelphi University softball team swept the University of Bridgeport, 8-0 and 4-0, this afternoon at Janet L. Ficke Field in their regular season home finale. The Panthers improve to 35-17 and 15-3 in the ECC, while the Purple Knights fall to 20-20 and 10-8.

Senior Dely Francisco combined for three steals in the contest, putting her in the number one spot all time at Adelphi with 82 career stolen bases. This suprasses the previous record of 81 set by Doreen Lumbra in 1990. She had already eclipsed the single-season record of 28, also set by Lumbra, earlier this season and her total stands at 43.

Game One
Junior Katie Brophy belted a two run homer in the first inning to put the Panthers up for good. She later tripled in the third, and came home on a two RBI single by junior Jessica Vogt to make it 4-0. Byster drove in Vogt for the third run. In the sixth innning, the Panthers rattled off three more runs in the sixth, including a run scored by Brophy, to close out the game, 8-0.

Senior Julie Schaper (17-2) pitched the six-hitter, with no walks and 10 strikeouts. She was also impressive at the plate, going 3-3, including a double and a triple with one RBI.

Adelphi had eight runs on 11 hits with no errors. Bridgeport had no runs on six hits with one error.

Game Two
UB's Tricia Lee held the Panthers to just four hits through the first four innings of play. But Adelphi found its way in the fifth as junior Samantha Johnston's RBI single drove in Francisco for the game-winning run. Junior Diana DiPiano followed with a two run home run to make it 3-0. Junior Christina O'Hara crossed the plate for the final run on a double by freshman Deirdre White in the bottom of the sixth.

White (4-5) also recorded the win on the mound, with five hits, five walks and 13 strikeouts.

The Panthers look to close out the regular season tomorrow, as they travel to Dowling College for a 12:00 noon contest.
