Garden City, N.Y. - The #19 Adelphi University softball team saw its 19 game win streak come to an end with a 1-0 loss to Bloomfield College yesterday afternoon. The Panthers rallied to a 7-4 victory in game two to move to 37-9 overall. The Deacons are 17-29.

In between games, the team recognized the class of 2007 which included seniors Alana daSilva, Sheila Feldman and Kristina LoCastro.

Game One
Neither team was able to score in the first four innings of play. Bloomfield made its move in the fifth when Amanda Byrnes tripled. Erin Covell singled in the next at bat to drive in Brynes for the winning run. The Panthers managed just three hits off of Brianne Moore, who recorded the win. Covell pitched the final three innings in relief with no hits, striking out two.

Feldman recorded the loss in the complete game, giving up one run, one earned, while striking out six.

Game Two
The Deacons took an early lead in the first inning as Mallorie Matthews belted a three-run homerun. Sophomore Samantha Johnston doubled then scored on a double by sophomore Kristin Brennan to make it 3-1. Bloomfield pushed its lead to three, 4-1, in the fourth. Next up Johnston singled to drive in daSilva and freshman Christine Robinson to close to within one run.

The Panthers tallied four runs in the seventh to clinch the victory. Sophomore Angela Martin reached on a fielder's choice then moved to second when Johnston walked. Brennan's single brought home Martin to tie the game. Sophomore Diana DiPiano accounted for the game-winning run on a double that scored Johnston. Junior Julie Schaper's double allowed DiPiano and Brennan to score, putting the game out of reach.

Robinson recorded the win, allowing eight hits, four runs, four earned while striking out six and walking one.

Adelphi had seven runs on 14 hits with two errors. Bloomfield had four runs on eight hits with no errors.

Next up, the Panthers head into the ECC Tournament as the number one seed. They will get a first-round bye and play the winner of the #5 Queens/#4 NYIT game at 4:00 p.m. at C.W. Post.
