Brookville, N.Y. - Sophomore Diana DiPiano was 2-for-3 with two RBI to lead the #16 ranked Adelphi University softball team to a 9-3 win over #25 LeMoyne in game five of the NCAA Northeast Regionals. The Panthers (39-12) will take on Bryant College tomorrow at 11:30 a.m. in an elimination game. The Panthers took a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the second after sophomore Samantha Johnston singled down the left line to score senior Kristina LoCastro and sophomore Christina O'Hara. The Dolphins closed the gap to one, 2-1, in the third. Adelphi added three more runs in the bottom of the third. DiPiano doubled to left and advanced home on a sac bunt by sophomore Jessica Vogt. Vogt and senior Alana daSilva accounted for the final two runs of the inning, with O'Hara and junior Dely Francisco credited with RBI's. LeMoyne added two more runs in the fourth, but Adelphi rattled off four in the bottom of the fifth to hold on for the win. DiPiano's single to left field drove in Francisco and pinch runner Bailey Lawrence. Sophomore Kristin Brennan singled to left field, and advanced to second on DiPiano's hit before rounding the bases on two LeMoyne errors. Junior Julie Schaper accounted for the final run, unearned, after reaching on a fielder's choice. Freshman Christine Robinson (10-2) recorded the win, giving up five hits in four innings on the mound, with three runs, one earned, two walks and three strikeouts. Senior Sheila Feldman was credited with the save, her second of the season, allowing three hits, no runs and one walk while fanning two. The Panthers face the Bulldogs tomorrow at 11:30 a.m. with the loser being eliminated from the tournament. Bryant (25-17) fell to C.W. Post (43-15), 5-1, in game eight. The winner of the Adelphi/Bryant match-up will take on the winner of the Georgian Court/Dowling game tomorrow at 4:30 p.m. |
