Garden City, N.Y. - The Adelphi University softball team was selected 18th, tied with Seattle University, in the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) Division II Top 25 Poll released today. The poll is voted on by eight NCAA Division II head coaches representing the eight NCAA regions. The Panthers (39-13) finished the season ranked 24th after winning their regular season conference title and advancing to the NCAA Regionals for the second time in three years. This is the first NFCA Pre-Season ranking for Adelphi since joining Division II in 1995. C.W. Post (45-17), coming in at No. 8, is the only other East Coast Conference school represented on the list. Adelphi, under the direction of first year head coach Paige Smith, kicks of the 2008 season on March 8-9 at the Patriot Invitational in Florence, South Carolina.
