Garden City, N.Y. - Senior Julie Schaper was named East Coast Conference Pitcher of the Year as announced today. Schaper, the first Adelphi player to receive this honor, is one of six Panthers to earn all-conference honors. Senior outfielder Dely Francisco and junior thirdbase Diana DiPiano joined Schaper on the first-team. Junior shortstop Jessica Vogt and sophomore Katie Brophy earned second-team honors, while junior secondbase Kristin Brennan was a third-team pick. Dowling's Taras Wallace and C.W. Post's Samantha Yodowitz shared ECC Player of the Year honors. Alexandra Sydor of Molloy earned Rookie of the Year honors. Bridgeport's Valerie Steen was voted Coach of the Year. Schaper earned Pitcher of the Year honors thanks to a 20-2 overall mark with a 1.17 ERA including a 10-0 mark and 0.52 ERA in ECC play. Overall, Schaper led the league in strikeouts and opposing batting average (.181). She finished second overall in total wins and ERA. Earlier this season, she cracked the 50 wins and 500 career strikeouts mark, putting her at the top of Adelphi's Division II career lists. Francisco set new Adelphi single-season and career steals records this season. She led the conference in stolen bases (46) as well as runs scored (45), hits (75) and at-bats (187). DiPiano led the league in assists (145) and ranked fourth in the leage in RBI (39), fifth in at-bats (171).
