May 7, 2007 Brookville, N.Y. - Adelphi University was selected by the National Collegiate Athletic Assocation as one of 64 teams to participate in the 2007 NCAA Division II Softball Championship as announced Monday afternoon. The C.W. Post Campus of Long Island University will serve as the host institution for the May 10-14, eight-team Northeast Regional. Click here for the tournament link which will include live stats of each game. The double-elimination tournament gets underway Thursday (May 10), with four contests kicking off the regional. In the 9 a.m. game, fourth-seeded Adelphi (38-11) takes on fifth-seeded Georgian Court (28-22). At 11:30, top-seeded Le Moyne (32-15) faces off against eighth-seeded UMass Lowell (28-20). The 2 p.m. contest features third-seeded Dowling (36-16) and sixth-seeded Bryant (24-16), before the 4:30 game pits second-seeded host C.W. Post (41-15) and seventh-seeded Southern Connecticut (32-15). The winners of the eight regional tournaments will play in the double-elimination championship round, May 17-21, at Firestone Stadium in Akron, Ohio. Four teams from the Northeast-10 Conference are represented in the field: Le Moyne, Bryant, Southern Connecticut, and conference postseason champion UMass Lowell. Three East Coast Conference squads qualified for the field (C.W. Post, conference postseason champion Dowling, and Adelphi), as did Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference champion Georgian Court. This is the second time in as many years the Panthers have advanced to the NCAA Regional Tournament and their fourth overall Division II since 2000.
