May 18, 2007 Garden City, N.Y. - Three members of the Adelphi University softball team received Louisville Slugger/NFCA All-Region recognition as announced May 9. Sophomores Diana DiPiano and Samantha Johnston earned First-Team honors, while sophomore Kristin Brennan was a Second-Team selection. This is the second NFCA honor for DiPiano and Johnston, who were both named second team selections in 2006 and the first for Brennan. DiPiano hit .343 on the season, starting in all 52 games. She led the team in doubles (17), homeruns (6) and runs batted in (36) and was second in at-bats (169) and runs (33). DiPiano was a first-team All-ECC selection and was also named to the Northeast Regional All-Tournament Team. Johnston ranked second on the team with a .399 batting average and was ranked first in at-bats (178), runs (38) and hits (71). Johnston was also honored earlier this season as a first-team All-ECC pick. Brennan hit .333 and was fourth in at-bats (138), runs (26) and hits (46). She was named a second-team All-ECC selection as well. The Panthers (39-13) finished the season with their best-ever Division II record, winning their first regular season conference title since 2000 and advancing to the NCAA Divison II Northeast Regional for the second time in as many years. |
