Bulldogs compete at Northwood Open



The men's 4 x 100 meter team set a school record on Saturday with a time of 41.76.

MIDLAND, Mich. - The Adrian College men's and women's track and field teams competed at a non-team scoring Open hosted by Northwood University over the weekend.

On the men's side, several individuals had impressive finishes for the Bulldogs. Bob Palmer's time of 9:47.30 in the 3000 meter steeplechase was the only finish below the ten-minute mark on the day and earned him the top finish in the event. The 4 x 100 meter team of Patrick Reagan, Desmond Upshaw, Ian Thornton, and Christon Calley continued their strong season as they finished first in a school-record time of 41.76 on Saturday. They made a provisional national qualifying time and are currently ranked ninth in the country in the event with the 41.76 time.

Christon Calley had an impressive day in individual events as well as he finished second in the 100 meter and 200 meter dashes with times of 11.31 and 22.12, respectively. Reagan took third place honors in the 100 meter dash with a time of 11.40.

For the women, Chelsey Berlin (20:56.43) and Liesle Travis (21:13.92) finished fourth and fifth respectively in the 5000 meter run to turn in two of the best Bulldog performances of the day.

Lucie Smith finished ninth in the 400 meter hurdles with a time of 1:17.13. Allison Lofgren finished ninth in the 100 meter hurdles in 17.23 to round out the top-ten individual finishers for the Bulldogs.

The women's 4 x 400 meter relay team of Lofgren, Smith, Lindsay Chitwood, and Jennifer Reynolds took a seventh-place finish.

Both teams will travel to Hillsdale, Mich. next weekend to compete in the Hillsdale Gina Relays on Friday and Saturday, April 25 and 26.
