ADRIAN, Mich. - It was a historic day for the women's tennis team as they played on campus outdoors for the first time in a number of years thanks to the Craft Tennis Complex located just behind Performance Stadium. The ladies had a dramatic comeback 5-4 win over Manchester College who advanced to the NCAA tournament last year. The Bulldogs had two great doubles wins in the two and three positions. Robyn Bahr and Katie MacFarlan got the better of Christa Hunter and Jordin Youst by the score of 8-6. Leeann Brooks and Emily Brede also posted an 8-6 score at three doubles over Nikki Ferguson and Sherry Smith. The match came down to three and six singles were the Bulldogs came through with big points. Brede dropped the first set 6-3 at six singles and then came back to win 7-5, 7-5 in the next two sets. She even made a diving save to prevent match point which could have given the match to Manchester. Bahr won in a dramatic third set super tiebreaker as she claimed a 6-4, 5-7, 10-5 win over Hunter at three singles. Katelyn Simcina won her singles matchup in the two spot with a 7-5, 6-3 win over Sarah Conwell. Adrian is now 3-9 overall and welcomes Tri-State on Saturday beginning at 1:00 p.m. |
