SPRING ARBOR, Mich. - The Bulldog women's tennis squad nearly made it into the fifth place match at the MIAA Championship falling 5-4 to Alma in the second match on Friday. The match was played at Spring Arbor University and the Bulldogs improved on their 6-3 loss at Alma earlier in the season. Adrian will face Tri-State tomorrow at 8:30 a.m. in the seventh place match. Alma took two of the three doubles matchups but Adrian did have an 8-5 win at two doubles as Robyn Bahr and Katie MacFarlan defeated Laura McKendry and Lindsay Wagner. The one doubles tandem of Lindsey Eshelman and Katelyn Simcina slugged it out with Margaret Curtiss and Kelly Schwartzkopf before falling 8-6. Eshelman had a convincing 6-1, 6-2 win at one singles over Schwartzkopf which pulled the Bulldogs within 4-2 after Alma won the first two singles matches at the six and five spots. Leeann Brooks dropped a 6-1, 6-1 decision at four singles which gave the Scots enough points for the win. Simcina had a big three-set win (5-7, 6-1, 10-7) over McKendry at two singles. Bahr earned her second win of the match with a 6-1, 3-6, 11-9 win at three singles. |
