Falcons Prepare for Front-Range Invitational

April 30, 2008

The Air Force track and field team will travel to Laramie, Wyo., for the first-ever Front Range Invitational on Saturday, May 3. The Falcons will face conference foes Colorado State and Wyoming, as well as local competition from Colorado and Northern Colorado. The meet will begin at 10 a.m., with the women's javelin and hammer throws, as well as the men's shot put.

MEET INFORMATION
The Front Range Invitational will take place at Wyoming's Louis Madrid Sports Complex. It is a team-scoring competition, with a `traveling trophy' awarded to the top men's and women's teams.

MAKING AN IMPACT
At the Drake Relays, the 4x800-meter relay team of Ally Romanko, Kelly Robinson, Becca Burditt and Danielle McCarty clocked a time of 9:16.92. Finishing 13th in the race, the squad clocked the second-best time in Academy history. That time trails only the record-setting team from 1984. In addition, Sean Houseworth finished third in the 5000-meter run at the Drake Relays with a time of 14:08.65. The sixth-fastest time in Air Force history is also a NCAA regional qualifying mark.

TWO FOR TWO
Air Force earned a pair of top-10 finishes from Katie Lynch and Katherine Ward in the 10,000-meter run at the Drake Relays. Lynch finished seventh in a time of 38:23.03, while Ward clocked an eighth-place time of 38:23.47. Lynch's time is the ninth-best in program history, while Ward's is 10th-fastest.

KEEPING UP WITH HISTORY
Former Academy standout and current volunteer coach 2Lt Dana Pounds posted the best overall javelin distance at 188'1". It is the fifth straight year that Pounds has led the javelin field at the Drake Relays. Pounds was the first-ever three-time collegiate champion at the prestigious event.

NEWS FROM FORT COLLINS...
Air Force claimed the top two spots in three different events at the Jack Christiansen Invitational. Terry Robinson and Skylar Morgan went one-two in the 110-meter hurdles, with respective times of 14.55 and 14.75. Scott Balcao (15:46.45, first) and Ryan Workman (15:56.91, second) clocked the two fastest times in the 5000-meter run, while Harmon Gage (202'0")and Connor Van Fossen (180'1") earned first- and second-place distances in the javelin.

ONE OF THE ELITE
With a career-best javelin throw of 202'0" at the Jack Christiansen Invitational, Harmon Gage becomes just the seventh Falcon to clear 200-foot plateau in that event. He improved his personal-best distance by over five feet to move into seventh on the program's all-time list.

WHAT'S ON DECK
Due to the cancellation of the Risdon Westen-Air Force Twilight Invitational, the Falcons are off from competition until May 14-17, when they travel to Fort Worth, Texas, for the 2008 Mountain West Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships.
