Volunteer XC Coach Advances to 1500-Meter Finals

EUGENE, Ore. - Lopez Lomong, the Air Force cross country team's first-year volunteer coach, advanced to the finals of the 1500-meter run at the 2008 Olympic Trials following a second-place finish in the semifinal round of competition on Friday, July 4, at Hayward Field in Eugene, Ore. Lomong clocked a time of 3:40.26 to move onto the finals.

"You can never count anybody out," Lomong said at the conclusion of the race. "We have 12 good kickers, 12 good endurance, 12 well-trained guys. You can never count anybody out, so until you line up on Sunday and go after it."

The final of the 1500-meter run closes out the Olympic Trials on Sunday, July 6, at 5:50 p.m. (PST).
