Oklahoma City, Okla. - Arizona State's Michele Benedetti and Stanford's Margaret Hostage won the men's and women's platform dive, respectively, Saturday on the third and final day of competition at the 2008 NCAA Zone E Diving Regionals, being held at the Oklahoma City Community College Aquatic Center.
Benedetti, who won the men's 3-meter title on Thursday, captured first place in the men's platform for the second-straight year, finishing with a score of 683.80. USC's Steven Starks placed second with a mark of 646.20, while Stanford's Brent Eichenseer took third place with a score of 621.80.
Hostage, who won the women's 1-meter title on Thursday, won the platform with a mark of 541.90. Placing second was teammate Shana Karp with a score of 531.15, while USC's Christine Petrelli took third place with a mark of 505.85.
Air Force sophomore Kyle Van Valkenburg (Tucson, Ariz.), the MWC champion in the men's platform this season, finished eighth in the event with a score of 586.80.
At the conclusion of the regional tournament, the NCAA qualifiers from Zone E were named. Earning spots for the men were Benedetti and Starks, along with Magnus Frick (Hawaii), Nathan Kim (Stanford), Sam Helvie (Cal), Mats Wiktosson (Hawaii), Ben Grado (Arizona) and Aaron Feight (Denver). On the women's side, Hostage and Karp were named qualifiers, along with Marisa Samaniego (UCLA), Candice Minette (Nevada), Emma Friesen (Hawaii), Tawni Jones (BYU) and Sarah Ohr (Stanford).
