Five Air Force Wrestlers Earn All-Conference Recognition

Cedar Falls, Iowa - Five Air Force wrestlers have been named to the 2007-08 Western Wrestling Conference all-conference teams, as announced by the league today. Individuals earned their spots on the respective teams with their finish at the 2008 NCAA West Regional on March 8 in Fargo, N.D.

Senior Jake Kriegbaum (Abilene, Kan.) and sophomore Tyler French (Malta, Mont.), both champions at the West Regional, each earned first-team all-conference honors. Kriegbaum, a three-time NCAA qualifier at 141 pounds, went 2-2 at the NCAA Championships last weekend and closed out the season with a 25-13 overall record.

Meanwhile, French, who made his first NCAA appearance this season at 174 pounds, ended the year with a 26-12 record, leading the team in winning percentage (.684) for the season.

The Falcons also had three wrestlers named to the All-WWC second team. Junior Stephen Crozier (Monona, Iowa) and seniors Jacob Devlin (Livingston, N.J.) and Tony Dorward (Seattle, Wash.) all placed second in the respective weight classes at the West Regional to stake their claims on the all-conference squad.

Crozier and Devlin, who competed at this year's NCAA Championships at 165 and 184 pounds, respectively, were also All-WWC picks in 2007, earning third-team accolades last year. Crozier ended the 2008 season with a 28-15 overall record, leading the Falcons in total wins. Devlin concluded his senior campaign with a 22-20 overall record, while Dorward, an NCAA alternate at 157 pounds, finished the year with a mark of 19-19.

 

 

Northern Iowa led the conference with 10 All-WWC picks, including six first-team honorees. Air Force, which ranked second with two first-team picks, Northern Colorado and Wyoming all had five wrestlers earn all-league honors. Each school that competed at this year's West Regional had at least one individual on the all-conference squads.

The Western Wrestling Conference is comprised of seven schools including the Air Force Academy, North Dakota State, Northern Colorado, Northern Iowa, South Dakota State, Utah Valley State and Wyoming. The conference formed in April 2006.
