Oregon State Gets First Win Over USC Upstate, 65-46
Nov. 18, 2007
FAIRBANKS, AK- Oregon State continued the rude introduction to Division I basketball competition for the University of South Carolina Upstate, as the Beavers got their first win of the season, 65-46. The victory sees Oregon State land in seventh place for the BP Top of the World Classic tournament, while the Spartans have to settle for eighth. Oregon State's Marcel Jones duplicated his performance from last night, hitting for 23 points in the second straight game. Jones missed just one shot from the field, and was a perfect three-for-three from behind the arc. Center Roeland Schaftenaar pulled down a game-high 10 boards for the Beavers. USC Upstate made things interesting for the first 20 minutes, battling the Beavers to a halftime tie. After the break, however, the Spartans could hit just seven of their 25 shots, adding just 16 points to their halftime total. Oregon State, meanwhile, proved too deep, as they got 25 points from their bench compared to just four for the Spartans. Luke Payne contributed 17 points for USC Upstate, while Bobby Davis just missed out on his second straight double-double, grabbing nine points and eight boards.
