Alaska Can't Ground High-Flying Redhawks as Miami Cruises 7-2 :: Nation's No. 2 team sweeps Nanooks at Carlson

FAIRBANKS, AK- It was a tough day at the office for Nanook goaltenders, as the No. 2 Miami RedHawk poured in seven goals to sweep the two-game series from Alaska by a 7-2 margin. The visitors had the puck in the back of the net after just one minute and 28 seconds, as a Jarod Palmer wrister beat Wylie Rogers glove-side after the sophomore received the puck from Carter Camper and Kevin Roeder. Justin Mercier would add a short-handed goal just before the end of the first frame, and the RedHawks wouldn't look back.

Landon Novotney and Braden Walls both found the net for the Nanooks, but their goals would be little more than consolation as the RedHawks showed why they currenly own the CCHA's top spot.

Novotney' goal, which came just one second before the end of the second period, was his team leading 10th of the season, while Walls grabbed his third of the campaign.

Miami's Campier would grab two power-play goals, while markers from Justin Vaive, Tommy Wingels, and Ryan Jones rounded out the scoring for the Redhawks.

Sophomore Erik Largen would make his 2007-08 season debut in goal for the Nanooks in the third period, making 10 saves on his way to Toyota Player of the Game honors.

The Nanooks wind up their three-week homestand with a double-header against Western Michigan at the Carlson Center on Feb. 1 and 2.
