Nanooks Outswam By Northern Colorado

Nov. 2, 2007

FAIRBANKS, AK - The Alaska Nanooks swim team won four of 11 events Friday, dropping their meet against visiting Northern Colorado, 132-73.

Despite the loss, the Nanooks' first-year swimmer Mariya Pavlovskaya managed to break two team records, including one of her own and one pool record, in the 400-meter individual medley and the 100-meter backstroke.

Her 4:37.78 mark in the 400 IM shattered the mark she set on Oct. 21 against Loyola Marymount with a 4:42.93. Her 100-meter backstroke time of 1:08:59 also bettered Jacqueline vanDriessche's 1:08.85, set on Nov. 17, 2006.

Junior Samantha Zinsli showed her strength in the distance races as she earned two first-place finishes for the Blue and Gold in the 500-meter freestyle and the 200-yard freestyle, finishing with 5:19.87 and 1:59.56, respectively.

The Nanooks get little rest before they see the Bears for a second meet as the two teams test the water again in Saturday's noon rematch at the Patty Center Pool.
