Bulldogs Salvage Third Game in Savannah Series



Manny Siaca was 3-8 in the first two games of the series

Game 1 - SAV 9, A&M 5
Game 2 - SAV 11, A&M 2
Game 3 - A&M 12, SAV 10

Jerome Brown pounded out four hits and scored two runs Saturday as Alabama A&M salvaged the final game of a three-game set with Savannah State at Bulldog Field. The Bulldogs held on for a 12-10 win to snap a four-game losing streak. The Tigers scored a doubleheader sweep on Friday, 9-5 and 11-2. Brown finished the series 7-9 with four runs scored. Tyron Childress was 6-11 in the the three games, and Manny Siaca was 3-8 in Friday's games. Childress also drove in four runs.

Brandon Gooden pitched 8.1 innings in the victory Saturday. Mike Bonds and Kevin Collins took the losses for A&M on Friday.

Alabama A&M is now 3-18 overall.

Game 1 (Sav 9, A&M 5) - A&M jumped out to a 4-2 lead after three innings, but the Tigers bounced back for two in the fifth and five in the sixth.  AAMU threatened in the latter innings, but only pushed across one more run.  Brown and Childress each had three hits as A&M outhit the Tigers 12-8. Collins went 5.2 innings giving up eight hits and nine runs.

Game 2 (Sav 11, A&M 2) - Again A&M took an early lead with a single run in the first. Savannah State rallied for single runs in the second and third, and then put the game away with seven runs in the final three innings. Bonds took the loss going 5.0 innings giving up 11 hits and six runs.


 

 

Game 3 (A&M 12, Sav 10) - Alabama A&M scored four runs in the bottom of the first, added a single run in the third, and put the game out of reach with five in the sixth and two more in the seventh.  The Bulldogs would need those final two runs as Savannah rallied, but fell short.  Marcus Spencer drove in three runs to lead A&M. Gooden got the win going 8.1 innings. Grant Mattix did not qualify for a save, but closed the door in the ninth.
