Bulldogs Take One During Senior Weekend

Game 1 - A&M 8, State 7
Game 2 - State 4, A&M 1
Game 3 - State 8, A&M 7 (10 inn)

Huntsville, Ala. - Alabama A&M won its first game 8-7, fell in the second game 4-1, and forced an extra inning in game three, but came up short as Alabama State walked away with the weekend series.

Game 1 - The Bulldogs struck first in the opening inning as Manny Siaca rounded the bases to score on a Turner Washington single. A&M put up six more runs in the bottom of the second for a 7-0 commanding lead. State countered with two runs in the top of the third to cut into the advantage, but Washington drove in Bernard McKinney to push the lead to 8-2 heading into the fourth. The Hornets scored another run in the sixth and four more runs in the bottom of the seventh, but could not rally for for tie as the Bulldogs held on for the 8-7 victory.

Tyron Childress had four hits with a run scored to lead the Bulldogs. Washington went 3-for-4 with three RBI, and Alton Ellison also recorded three RBI. For the Hornets, T.J. Griggs and Ronald James both went 2-for-4. Chris Davis scored two runs for State. A&M pitcher Kevin Collins picked up the win, while Zeb Hilburn took the loss for the Hornets. A.J. Campbell was credited with the save.

Game 2 - The Hornets scored two unanswered runs in the fourth and two more in the fifth, while the Bulldogs only put up one run in the bottom of the seventh as ASU walked away with the 4-1 win. For the Bulldogs, Childress continued his perfect streak at bat with two hits with a run scored. Washington recorded the only RBI for the Bulldogs. ASU's Hilburn went 2-for-3 while Griggs scored two runs. Norris Kyles was awarded the win, while Mike Bonds suffered the loss.
 

 

Game 3 - Down 7-4 in the bottom ninth, The Bulldogs rallied to score three runs to tie the game and force the extra inning. Chris Terry led off the ninth with a homer, while Evans and Maveric Scott rounded the bases for two scored runs. However, the comeback fell short in the 10th inning ASU's Furquan Shamsud-Din hit a double RBI to bring Davis home. A&M was unable to respond in the bottom half as the Bulldogs were edged 8-7.

Childress went 3-for-5 with two RBI, while Terry and Kency Duarte both finished with two RBI. Bryan Evans scored two runs for the Bulldogs. Hornets' pitcher Devin Dominguez picked up the win on the mound, and Collins suffered the loss for A&M.

AAMU is back in action Monday when it travels to Atlanta, Ga. to face Georgia State for a twin-bill. First pitch is set for 2 p.m.
