Howard Pride joined UAB for the 2007-08 season as the graduate manager on the UAB men's basketball team. Following the season, he was promoted to Director of Men's Basketball Operations. The former Vanderbilt University basketball player joins Mike Davis' staff with seven years of coaching experience on the high school and collegiate level.

Pride first broke into the coaching ranks at Belmont University where he was an assistant coach from May of 1997 through June of 1998. Following his stint with the Bruins, Pride spent one season at Alabama as an administrative assistant from 1998-99. While at the two schools, Pride was responsible for helping with travel, managing compliance matters and responsible for the day-to-day operations of the basketball teams.

From 1999-2001, Pride made the switch to high school coaching and found success, leading Decatur (Ala.) High School to the state tournament during each of his two seasons. In his first year as head coach, Pride led Decatur to a 16-14 record and a Sweet 16 finish. He followed that with a 28-8 record in 2001 and a Class 6A state runner-up finish. For his efforts, Pride was tabbed the 2001 Coach of the Year by the Decatur Daily.

Pride's most recent coaching stint came at Westminster Christian Academy in Huntsville, Ala. where he was the head coach of the boys varsity team from 2005-06.

Pride has also worked as a fitness coordinator, teacher and community counselor.

While at Vanderbilt, Pride excelled both on and off the court. He was tabbed the team captain of the 1997 Vanderbilt team and selected to the Southeastern Conference All-Academic team. He was also tabbed as the team's top newcomer during his freshman year (1994) and a finalist for Vanderbilt's Post-Graduate Community Service Scholarship in 1997.

Pride graduated from Vanderbilt in 1997 with a degree in human and organizational development.
