UAB Football Team Practices In Full Pads
April 9, 2008
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. ----- The UAB football team spent just over two hours on the practice field Wednesday and head coach Neil Callaway said he was pleased with his team's workout. The Blazers will have a lighter practice Friday before concluding spring drills Saturday with their spring game at Legion Field (1:00 p.m.). "It was a good day," said Callaway. "We did a lot more 11-on-11 drills, not as much from a fundamental and individual standpoint. I thought both sides had some positives, but we still have plenty to work on. We're not where we need to be, but as long as the effort and attitude stays like it was today, we'll be a better football team." Callaway singled out running back Justin Brooks, as well as linebackers Terry Thomas and Kyle Roget for catching his attention with their performances Wednesday. Callaway also said his team has definitely improved its physical level of play this spring, though the Blazers have had to cut back some on the defensive side recently due to some injuries. "I think it's (physical play) been a lot better," said Callaway. "We've gotten better on both sides of the ball. At times, when we were healthy and fully-manned, I think we were better. But lately, the defense has been shorthanded and they've given up some things they don't need to give up."
