Blair Named Scholar-Athlete of the Week

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - Danielle Blair, a sophomore defender on the UAB women's soccer team, has been named this week's UAB Scholar-Athlete of the Week. Blair was a Conference USA Academic Medal of Honor recipient in 2006-07, while starting in 13 matches for the Blazers.

The Scarborough, Ontario, Canada native was the 16th Blazer all-time to receive the C-USA Academic Medal of Honor. In addition to her medal, Blair was also named to the Conference USA Commissioner's Honor Roll.

UAB is off to a 1-0-1 start to the season after tying Mercer and beating Georgia State, 2-0, at the LQ Cup Tournament in Macon, Ga., this past weekend. Blair started in the backfield in both contests.

Blair scored one goal in her freshman campaign in 2006, that coming in a 3-1 victory against Rice. She helped lead the Blazers to their second Conference USA Tournament title and NCAA Tournament appearance.

The Blazers will host a pair of SEC opponents this week when Vanderbilt comes to play at West Campus Field on Friday at 7:30 p.m. before Ole Miss visits Sunday at 3 p.m.
