BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - Jill Porto, a senior midfielder on the UAB women's soccer team, has been named this week's UAB Scholar-Athlete of the Week. Porto is a two-time member of the Conference USA Commissioner's Honor Roll and has been named to the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) and Soccer Buzz All-Region teams in her career.

Porto, a marketing major at UAB, played a significant role in the team's 2006 C-USA Tournament championship run by scoring a goal against Colorado College in the championship match to help the Blazers earn a 3-2 victory. She ranked second on the team with four goals last season.

This season, Porto has one assist and has taken a team-high 35 shots. The Blazers are 4-4-1 for the year and 2-0-0 at West Campus Field.

The Woodbridge, Va., native was named to the C-USA All-Freshman team in 2004 and was a first-team All-Conference USA pick in 2005 to go along with her NSCAA All-Region selection that season.

UAB will next be in action on Friday when it travels to play its Conference USA opener at Memphis at 7 p.m.
