Women's Soccer Earns NSCAA Team Academic Award

Dec. 14, 2007

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The UAB women's soccer team has been recognized for its accomplishments in the classroom by earning the National Soccer Coaches Association of America's (NSCAA) Team Academic Award for the 2007 season.

The award is given to programs that achieve a combined team grade point average of 3.0 or better throughout the year. The Blazers recorded a team GPA of 3.23 to claim their 12th consecutive NSCAA Team Academic Award.

"We are very excited about this award," said UAB head coach Paul Harbin. "When we started this program 12 years ago, our main goals, in addition to be a highly successful team on the field, was to be a top academic program as well. Our players have embraced that concept and that goal over the years.

"In our eyes, we've built a culture of a positive peer pressure in terms of success in the classroom. We expect that of our team and the players expect that of each other. We are happy about keeping our streak alive of earning this award for 12 straight years."
