SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. ----- The UAB softball team lost its final game of the Mustang Classic to host school Cal Poly, 5-2.

The Blazers (9-8) finished with one win and three losses at the tournament.

"We actually played a better game then what the score indicated," head coach Marla Townsend said. "Their batters didn't really hit the ball hard, but they just were able to drop their hits into the right places and the right time."

Skates and Harris hit back-to-back singles to get the inning started for the Blazers in their second inning. Jennifer Nelson then came up and lined a single to left center, scoring Skates from second and giving UAB an early 1-0 lead.

The Mustangs took over the lead in the third inning scoring two runs on two hits and walk.

Cal Poly added their third run in the fourth inning with a single off the end of Jessica Rogers' bat that spun away from away Harris and hit just soft enough to reach first ahead of Krzan's throw. Jenna Maiden, who singled to begin the inning, scored from third to make it a 3-1 game.

Leigh Walker helped the Blazers get out of a bases loaded jam with no outs. Walker gunned down the lead runner at home for the first out. She then turned a double play, initially breaking toward the bag on the swing. She fielded the ball tagged the runner headed to second and shuffled the ball to Harris at first for the third out.

Harris cut into the deficit for UAB with an RBI single into center field in the sixth inning, making it a 3-2 game.

The Mustangs took back the run with their at bat in the sixth inning. Sarah Iwata singled with a blooper to right center that died and could be fielded in time to for Caley Walden to make a play on it. Cal Poly scored another run on a wild pitch to make a 5-2 game.

Krzan made a backhanded flip to Cameron Skates to tag out the runner advancing to third to end the inning.

Harris (4-3) lasted four innings in the circle and was moved to first after her hand was struck with a line drive to start the fourth. She was 2-of-3 from the plate.

The game was rescheduled for Sunday morning due to weather conditions around the area. The Blazers' game against Sacramento State that was scheduled to be played Sunday morning was canceled for the chance to play Cal Poly.

UAB will be in action 6 p.m. Tuesday at George Ward Park as it hosts No. 15 Mississippi State for a single game.
